From impactful images to randomly selected frames

Of old Hong Kong films

In watercolour

While travelling to a different town where I often do not have big space to do big works, I would think often of watching some old Hong Kong films and perhaps do some watercolour images

I used to be more picky in choosing certain frames of impact but am more relaxed in picking them now

I decided to be more random, more casual

As if any of the unintentional  stopping or freezing of a moment is similar to a still life arrangement, happened to be there for the painter to exercise his or her delightful practice

So from some portraits of beautiful Kar Ling, made memorable by Director Chor Yuen to other funny moments in the film the Secrets of my husband, ( by the same Director), I aimed solely to enjoy repeating certain moments I had loved in paint  , perhaps, just to thank the Directors who created these images or simply to be nostalgic.

Then my childhood memories took me to my teenage adventure : theatre

And thanks to Director Ng Wui, I never quite managed to see life not as a theatrical expression, hence, I keep going back to see some old films directed by Mr. Ng Wui.

It was filmed in 1958 by Ng Wui.

Certain frames from the film Ah Chiu is getting married surprised me

I enjoyed watching it again and again

Perhaps for various reasons

It was the year when I was born

The director Ng Wui was my mentor whom I  managed to meet when I was 13

Patrick Tse , my favourite Hong Kong actor when I was a child, sings in the film

The film carries a warm message

I left Hong Kong in 1976 hoping to study film making in order to return to Hong Kong to work with Director Ng Wui

But I never managed to do that

Instead I became a pictorial artist

These watercolour images I did of the old Hong Kong films are moments of delight and of inspiration:

Delight because these images reminded me of my Hong Kong past

Inspired because they reminded me of Uncle Ng Wui, a very witty personality, who filled my days of childhood with much fun and creativity
