Dong Po Pork

the famous dish of Su Shi ( Sung Dynasty 1037-1101)

together with his poetry

and the poetry of Carducci

are now immortalised by a book titled

' Sushi's recipe, poetry and gastronomy in Ancient China, plus San Martino by Carducci' written by Antonio PISAPIA*

hand printed by Laboratorio Fratelli Manfredi , in limited editions

with illustrations I did in Linocuts

the video shows the process of enjoying the recipe, by realising the dish after having consulted some local experts in Hong Kong

with watercolour drawings as preparations, the linocuts then take on a taste hopefully less heavy than the super delicious Dong Po pork

the book is going to come out in no time

should you be interested

kindly contact Laboratorio Fratelli Manfredi

Hope you manage to get one of the limited copies

 * Antonio ( First name) PISAPIA ( Last name)

-my husband who wrote the text is from Cava dei Tirreni , Italy

after moving back to Hong Kong with me in the summer of 2018, Antonio began to concentrate on his interest on Chinese poetry and therefore discovered Su Shi, the renowned poet and creator of Dong Po Pork

During our stay in Lantau where we often see the fog making its spectacular scene on the Lotus hills , Antonio is surprised to find its image in San Martino, the poem by J. Carducci. ( 1835-1907) Carducci wrote this poem when he was nineteen. Almost by coincidence, Carducci took his inspiration from ancient Chinese poetry and much has been written about his love for Chinese culture.

I translated Carducci's Italian text in Chinese . During the process, I was impressed by the young Carducci's use of Chinese ways of imagery: the scenes that move naturally with nature, suggestive but ever changing. It is Tao in essence.

Thanking such discoveries, we proposed this project to Mavida, now known as Laboratorio Fratelli Manfredi, from Reggio Emilia, Italy.

Thank you to the family of Manfredi who made this happen.

We are looking forward to the day when the handmade book comes out.

( The reason why I try to make certain people who reads this text understand that Antonio is a first name and not a last name is due to the fact that the Immigration Department in Hong Kong was led to believe the opposite : that I was married to ANTONIO Pisapia and not PISAPIA Antonio for a number of years. It happened because the Hong Kong system registers Last name before the first name. I got married to Antonio in 1990, years before the handover of 1997. It was common knowledge that First name is written before the Last name, especially for a foreigner. I publicly declare the above mainly to avoid a possible borrowing of Antonio's name . Thank you. Bernadette )
